Weekend getaway- east coast near NC? Fun and Adventurous!?

My boyfriend and I want to take a little getaway for a few days- he had mentioned Busch Gardens in VA- any other suggestions? It is his 30th bday so I think he feels the need to fall to his death at a theme park! Mention any good places to stay (with in reasonable cost) as well! Thanks for the help!
